Trialoor is a sufferer of short term memory loss. Raised by a blacksmith with no apparent deity, he was a somewhat lively child. Although he was always forgetting, he never forgot the grand feeling of euphoria that rushed through his body and he played with a wooden sword he received for his eighth birthday. Trialoor was constantly (and increasingly) bullied by other kids in the village, but he held on by thinking a strange thought that didn't quite make sense: "If I were bullying them, they wouldn't like it. They would be as sad as I am, and I wouldn't want that. Oh how I pity them. Or is it that I pity myself? You are quite the genius, Trialoor." Grudgingly, his father finally agreed to give him lessons with a blade when he was eighteen years old and appointed the only sword-master in the village to train him, Kip Tarriack. When Trialoor forgets things, they're usually forgotten within ten to fifteen seconds. If the occurrences are quite serious, he may forget within thirty seconds or he may not forget at all, as his illness can be upredictable in some cases. Although he was a slow learner, he never stopped trying to become the best swordsman in his relatively small village. For two years he practiced with Kip by his side, yet he did not improve much due to the fact that he would forget certain drills he was supposed to be practicing after lessons with Kip. One night, Trialoor was confronted by his father who sat down in his room and said to him, "You're a good son, Trialoor. Your mental illness can interfere with your choices, however. I want you to promise me something and never forget it. Always keep it in your mind.. You're not evil and you never will be. Please try not to let your illness interfere with your choices." Trialoor quickly responded, "I know, father. But there's not much I can do about it-- "Trialoor," his father said. "Just because you tend to forget things doesn't mean you aren't capable of great things. In fact, such thoughts are redundant and stupid." Trialoor shifted uneasily. "Well, I'm not saying I won't become what I intend to be. But I'm not saying that I will either." After a pause his father replied: "Once I'm gone you'll have to guide yourself quite obviously. You won't have me to give you advice, or the necessities I've given you in the past. Please take this into account, Trialoor." Several minutes after his father left the room, Trialoor began talking to himself. "Well, of course! My father has been guiding me my whole life. Eventually I'll be on my own, a grand adventurer who saves people from, oh what was it... Trialoor, you're a dim-wit. You know that?" After a few hours of deep thought, he managed to emblazon his father's words in his own mind. Then one day disaster struck. A score of Orc raiders plundered the village, killing all in their sight. Trialoor was one of the only people to survive the attack, who hid in a small ditch while the pillaging occurred. Sadly, the few survivors there were did not include Kip Tarriack his trainer or Michael Corra his beloved father. Frustrated with his cowardice and lack of skill with a blade, he set off on an adventure with his father in his heart, along with hopes to one day become a legendary sword master. "You're not an evil person and you never will be, Trialoor. So don't let your illness interfere with your choices in life," he said with a slight smile on his face, picturing himself as a grand hero of Layonara.
