Born second among his older brother and two younger siblings, Agathus Whittler and his family lived somewhat farther into the forest adjacent to the city of Hlint than most. Agustus, Agathus' father, was extrodinary in his size and demeanor of which he proved to be very strict and demanding of his children. Melena, the mother, was a pleasant and caring person and was often overpowered and intimidated by her husband. The Whittler family lived alone in their solumn lonely existance deep in the forest rarely, if ever, departing from their home for very short uninhibited ventures to the closest town only to once again hear the hateful and threatening comments brought apon the family because of Agustus' past.   Many hardships, family struggles, depressions, and twenty four years after his begining Agathus can take it no longer. One day he finally comes to his senses and relizes that the only way to ever have a chance at living in a peaceful existance is to rid himself of his past and start anew. For this to work, he must travel alone to the city (having, of course, no support from his father and his mother not able to travel through the forest alone nor allowed) and try to rid himself of the negative view that was passed to him from his father; while also earning his way and for once make a name for himself.   Because of his past Agathus lacks so many of the ideals and habits of normal city folk. Everything he knows from his last 24 years shapes him to act anti-social and very independant of the assistance of others, except in areas requiring battleskills (he never was allowed to help his father when hunting; which would have provided the only available exposure to any type of weapon-wielding activity). On his arrival at the city he is amazed at the amount of people and the way everything is organized, he is also very reluctant to speak out or first to anyone. He doesn't get as many hatful remarks as he expects, but they still are apparent enough that he decides to go by a different name (Samuel Smith) to try to help rid him of any hinerance to his goals that he recieves from his fathers past reputation. (He has never been exposed to the beliefs or ideals of any diety).
