Darun was the son of a successful merchant Dwarf, Falrow Strongstone. Since the day he was born, he travelled between towns and villages with his father, crafting and selling goods. Although Falrow was a perfectly capable miner, and was teaching Darun to be as well, the demand was too high. So a good friend of his did all the mining for them. As such, they could not travel far from the source, and business was fairly limited. Nevertheless, money was good. The only person missing from the picture of father and son was, of course, Darun's mother. Whenever his father talked of her, there was a look of sadness in his eyes, but before he got carried away, he would compose himself. Falrow had lived only 3 years with his wife, Nyna. He had always spoken of adventure and fortune, things Nyna didn't say she wanted, but really she liked this side of Falrow. But he was forever bored of normal life, and a mediocre lifestyle. As soon as Nyna gave birth to Darun, Falrow claimed it was the 'perfect opportunity' to set off for adventure. Unfortunately, Nyna didn't agree. The trade was peaceful, but there were the harsh realities of travelling with valuable goods. When Darun was only 25, they were attacked by a small band of goblins. Obviously they had underestimated Falrow. Immediately, he pulled out his hammer and smashed the heads of the goblins. Darun was shocked. He had no idea his father had such a violent side to him. But he liked it, and requested he be taught how to fight like that. So Falrow taught him basic combat with a variety of weapons. But always he insisted that Darun shouldn't use it unnecessarily, and should follow a sort of personal ccode. It involved things such as never attempting to intimidate the weaker, don't lie if you can help it, and always be polite to a potential customer, even if the customer IS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT. Business began to slacken. Falrow had to work very hard, and he was often up late, looking over papers and lists, counting money. Yet the trade seemed still intact. But one day, Falrow wasn't himself. Darun was there, watching his father do business, when he did something he would never normally do. He let an offer slide clearly further than he meant to. Afterwards, Darun spoke to him, asking him if he was alright, but Falrow didn't quite seem to be with it. Soon he got sick, and doctors were called in. But he died from some illness. Darun wasn't exactly heartbroken, but of course he cared about his father, the person who had looked after him and taught him so much. But he knew that grieving wasn't going to solve anything. He was more than old enough to look after himself, but there was nowhere he could go anyway. Falrow hadn't spoken of his home, or where it was. So Darun found himself pressed to take over the business. He knew what he was doing, but customers became more and more rare. There wasn't anything wrong, just that people weren't buying what they used to. Darun was stuck with a hard choice. He knew there was no saving the business now. But could he really give up all that his father had made? He came to a decision. He wasn't going to stick with the plummeting trade, he wasn't going to drink himself to death... He sold off the remaining stock, and set off for a new place, somewhere to resurrect the business, maybe.
