Dandeleon

Background

Dandeleon is from the town of Harper's Ferry on the continent of Dregar and is the son of moderately-well-to-do merchants who overstayed his welcome at home. Having been put to work in the family store at age 16 his parents soon discovered his penchant for avoiding work and playing with the few magic items that came into the store. The minor disasters these experimentings produced were cause for great exasperation. At age 18, he was sent to work with the local mage/alchemist (under the thinking that maybe this would quench his thirst for things magical) but he found the required course of study too encumbering and prefered to do his research in the style of "I wonder what happens if I do this...?" He soon found himself out of a job, without a mentor, and living back at home with his parents. At age 19, his parents paid one of the local military men to give Dan a little "basic training" thinking it might shape him up. After some "encouragement", Dan turned out to have something of a knack for the professional skills, if not the professional duties. Turning down an offer of low-ranking officer if he enlisted, Dandeleon said "Good-bye" to his parents, thanked them for their efforts with him, and went out into the world to find himself. On his way out the door, he pocketed a small magic item of little consequence. Dandeleon is a fairly tall (6' 2"), moderately thin, human with collar length brown hair. He is rather ordinary in appearance, except for his eyes which are blue-gray in color and tend to pick up whatever color surrounds him, thus causing his eyes to change in appearance depending on circumstances. He has very little in the way of a temper and is generally willing to overlook the barbs and/or faults of others. His philosophy is "Hey, everyone has to do what they have to do." He seldom holds grudges. While with his alchemist mentor, he learned to worship the deity Lucinda and found that from time to time she seemed to bless him with a little magical intuition, usually just enough to get him into trouble. However, he appreciates the humor in this and generally likes her style. Although he knows he will never be a great mage, he does ask her to return his devotion with occasional magic items, which fascinate him. He promises, in return, to never sell those items of use she sends his way, but instead to use them as necessary, give them to deserving others when they are no longer needed, or sell them and turn the proceeds over to her temple. This promise does not apply to found magic items which are of little or no use to him as Dandeleon is sure she would not send such items his way, but that they were found simply by happenstance. (A little self-serving, but this is Dandeleon we are talking about.) Not knowing where to go to begin his new life, Dandeleon walked down to the harbor and bought a ticket on the first ship out.
