Voldengrath Telor

Background

Death and mystery always seemed to cloud Voldengrath's life, from his beginnings as an infant, to the latter part of his young life. Voldengrath was the youngest and the smallest of 5 brothers in the Telor family. He was born months before the expected due date, and suffered many consequences because of this. He was always a sickly child during his infancy, and suffered from many diseases and ailments. Voldengrath was always the scapegoat of his other four brothers, and was always picked on due to his age and his size. His mother Lenora always made it sure to give him extra attention than all of the other brothers. Voldengrath always had more clothes than his brothers, more rations than his brothers, and more love from his mother than his brothers. Voldengrath's brothers resented that their mother always paid close attention to him. One night, when Voldengrath was about 4, his brothers took him to a nearby creek, knowing that he was unable to swim. The boys teased Voldengrath by holding him over the water and telling him that they would drop him in. Arthur, the eldest of the boys, held Voldengrath over the water and heard a nearby howl of a wolf. Arthur flinched and Voldengrath was threwn into the creek. The boys panicked and fumbled to pull him out of the water, but they could not see his head. Three minutes went by and the boys began to become filled with fright... "He has to have died by now, whatever shall we tell mother?" A few more minutes passed and Voldengrath appeared out of the water. The boys fetched him and quickly rushed him to his mother. Voldengrath was blue as the summer sky! It was impossible that this young runt of the family should ever be alive! Miraculously, by the next morning, Voldengrath had regained his health and returned to normal. Voldengrath never informed his family about the event that happened while he was submerged in water. While Voldengrath was caught in the creek, he became entangled in some underwater foliage. He saw through the water, 8 bluish stars shining brightly in the sky. It was Lucinda's Flare, an event still unknown or unheard of to Voldengrath. While gazing at these stars he heard a faint whispering in his ears. The chilling cold water led Voldengrath to become dillusional at this point, but still somewhat able to comprehend events around him. At first he could not make out the voice, but then was able to determine what was talking to him. It said, "Do not be frightened child, for I am a follower of the Mother of All Spells. Lady of Healing, and all that is good. Now is not your time child, for your fate holds so much for you..." Whilst Voldengrath believed this to be Lucinda herself talking to him, it was but only a cleric of Lucinda freeing him from a premature death. Voldengrath was then freed by the undergrowth, floated towards the surface, and was relieved by his brothers. That night, as he dreamt, Lucinda ascended from the stars and kissed Voldengrath on the forehead...Life seemed to look up for Voldengrath after this incident, his brothers left him alone and he was free to do as he pleased. Weeks went by and Voldengrath noticed he was not as sickly as he had once been. His brothers even noticed he had grown an inch in just those few weeks. Meanwhile, Voldengrath had never really known his father. He had no idea of his profession, and how he even managed to bring money home to feed his family. Voldengrath was always suspicious of his father, Renauld, however. His father was typically at home only 8-10 hours at a time in a day. He would often leave during the daytime and not return until the following day. Voldengrath always heard the front door of their cabin open and shut during the darkest hours of the night, and always worried where his father had run off to. He often would stay up late in a hayloft and watch his father come in and out. He would occassionally be out of breath when he came in, holding a cloth bag, encompassing something that always seemed to ring and jingle. Voldengrath always assumed it was money, but where did this money come from? One night, his father came home in a panic. He was covered in blood, and was stumbling. He still had a cloth bag, but seemed to have something different inside. Rather than coins, Voldengrath could see the faint glimmer of something bigger... a gem maybe? He would never know. The following night, Voldengrath awoke to banging on his door. His mother was in a panic, trying to wake up all the boys and flee the house. Renauld, also, was aiding Lenora, as he tried to collect all the families valuables. Voldengrath then heard his father shriek, and was instantly picked up in his mothers arms. Hoisted over his mothers shoulder, he saw men with torches bombarding and torching the house. Lenora ran as fast as she could trying to calm the young Voldengrath. Voldengrath saw over his mother's shoulder, the slaughter of his father, and the eventual death of his brothers, as the men with torches gained ground. Lenora decided to leave Voldengrath in some brush beside the same creek he had once fallen into, as to protect him. Lenora left nothing with Voldengrath, other than some clothing and some small rations... Voldengrath never knew what had happened to his mother that night. As the men disappeared into the night, Voldengrath remained in the brush by the lake, finding a sense of relief in the glow and sound of the creek. On this night, coincidencially, was the night of Lucinda's Flare and meanwhile, an old man Kalor, stumbled his way towards the creek to get some water for his home. If it had not been for Lucinda's Flare, Kalor might have never seen Voldengrath huddled in the brush beside the creek. He saw Voldengrath curled in a ball, asleep, and decided to take him back to his cottage. Years pass, and Voldengrath begins to grow into a young adult under Kalor's watch. Kalor is a very gentle man, and always taught Voldengrath of the many virtues in life. He taught Voldengrath not to seek revenge on whoever had harmed his family, but to rather let the past be the past, and become an individual that would help all of the world, rather than harm it by his obsession with vengeance. He informed Voldengrath how he found him that night during Lucinda's Flare, and began to influence Voldengrath to give praise Lucinda for allowing him to do so. Voldengrath soon gained a loving respect for Lucinda, and followed her word very closely. He slowly began putting the pieces together, and realized that Lucinda had saved him twice now, he was forever in her debt. Kalor also dabbled in the ways of the magics, and decided to show Voldengrath the power behind such acts. It was through these teachings, and the values instilled on Voldengrath by Kalor, that he decided to become a practicing Wizard rather than a Sorceror. Years past and Voldengrath grew ever stronger. Kalor always noted something in Voldengraths Aura, something that made him stand out from the rest of the boys his age. But what? Years again seem to pass, and Voldengrath begins to become restless. He wishes to figure out his life, and piece together all of the events that lead him to Kalor. All of the events with Lucinda's involvement. "What does my fate have in store for me?" Voldengrath wonders, and so, he begins his journey.
