Durgen Stormbrow

Background

My story starts many ages ago after Grannoch gave birth to The Earth Giant in the Berhagen Mountains. During the great battles between dwarves and giants, wizards on both sides of the battle called upon the earth to provide them with the force to defeat their enemy. The conflict resulted in skewing the power of the earth and transported my ancestors from the Backbone Mountains on the Island of Talimar. Once order was restored my ancestors stayed and were accepted by the Ulgrid clan of the Berhagen Mountains. The Ulgrid clan vowed to reject all arcane magic powers due to the destruction that they had brought upon this beautiful mountain range. My father is a Hammer of Dorand. He is a respected member of the priesthood but will never advance much farther due to our bloodline. I was born Durgen, twin of Kurgin, in the year of the return of Blood. Immediately from birth my father sensed an inner strength in both myself and my twin brother. At an early age my brother began to excel in the priestly learning necessary to become a Hammer of Dorand which made my father exceedingly proud. Unfortunately I did not excel in the priestly arts which was a great cause of discontent between myselft and my father. My father always exclaimed that he could not believe that Durgan was the twin of Kurgin. In part it seemed true, my two elder brothers were more like twins in all ways possible. They were both strong fighters and you could not tell them apart easily. Even though my twin and I may not have seemed alike the bond between us was as strong as any in our clan could know. Kurgin had recently been accepted as an Acolyte of the Hammer and as a celebration my brother and I went exploring. While exploring our mountain range we came across a caravan that had been destroyed by the Berhagen giants. There was not much left of any value that wasn't destroyed except for a tome that was well hidden in the floorboards of one of the wagons. I seemed to be drawn to it and found the secret compartment easily. We were not sure what it was immediately but the text writhed when we tried to read it but I was able to make out some of the writing. One thing was for sure in that it was magical. We took the tome back to the stronghold and kept it a secret. I continued pouring over the tome and came to believe it was a tome of arcane magic spells and had even begun to pratice some of the magic while we went exploring. I began to collect the spell components that would be needed to further my study. My brother asked me to keep my abilities a secret until he could research the clan's ancient histories. Kurgin hoped to find documents of times when Dwarves practiced arcane magics and thus find support for me within the clan. All this was for naught as I was caught practicing magic by one of the clan's higher ranking clerics and immediately took me to the Ranking Hammer of the clan. I was banished and sent into the wild alone. I will miss my brothers, especially Kurgin, but for the opportunity to harness powerful magical energy and someday fight against Blood, it will be worth the sacrifice.
