It sounds far worse than it tastes. Its name was simply taken from the brewing process. Into each brew you would "crack open" the seedpods of the skullcap plant and allow the seeds to soak in the mixture. Thus the name Cracked Skull was adopted. A smoother ale one will never find than a good cream ale.
