Kas

Background

Many small villages and hamlets lie on the trade routes that wind through the continent of Mistone. On one such route, between the great cities of Hampshire and Blackford, a cousy inn could be found. Embedded in the woods, the dim light from the windows of this lodge always invited the tired travellers to turn off the dirty road and enjoy a good evening in a pleasant company. The owner of this establishement was an elderly man named Ingvar. Who, despite his age, was very lively and could always be found chatting with his customers or even roughing up an occasional bandit. Such a personality could easily be explained by his past, as a former adventurer he had spent his entire life travelling through the vast lands of Layonara. If his words are to be believed he settled down only because he had seen everything...though the bitter alternative can also be heard from the not so satisfied customers, but is not worth of mentioning. Almost every traveller is greeted personally by Ingvar, no not because he is very friendly, but simply because most of the visitors are his friends from the past or friends of his friends or friends of his friends' frie....well hopefully you understand. Having greeted and served them a drink, or more likely three, Ingvar turned to his son and usually began with words "Listen up lad, I met this fellow when I was..." or "Remember this one, he is a wealthy man from...". Due to these "presentations" Ingvars's son, Kas, became very well acquintated with the various merchants, merceneries, thiefs, travelling bards and the occasional noble. Yet even with the various stories a young soul still cannot be kept so deep in the woods, even if the company is always different and far from boring. Kas, as any young boy, wished to see and do everything himself. It is hard to say what caused this, was it really his young age, his heritage or perhaps the fact that most visitors in the inn were men. Nevertheless, Kas used every opporunity to head out into the villages nearby. Luckily these opportunities were not rare nor hard to find as his father oftentimes sent him to the fairs and markets to sell the various brews. Such trips were supposed last three days at the very most but it was a rare occasion when they came to an end so quickly. Most often than not, having sold the brew, Kas managed to join one of the many groups that were passing through the markets. He then proceeded to satisfy his lust for adventure before once again returning to the inn. Ingvar did not mind, he actually enjoyed listening to Kas' stories upon his return, sometimes giving advice or drawing parallels to the days of his adventuring. Such life naturally led to the creation of a very free spirit, one that is not burdened by the difficult moral dillemas that seem to turn world into hell for many others in this world. Kas lived one day at a time and did worry about anything, he knew not to fear hunger, war or anything similar. And why would he? He had a live example of an easy life infront of his eyes, the stories that Ingvar told him and the people that Kas met at the inn created a playful image of life in the boy's eyes. Everything told above had reflected in his view on religion. He did not follow a strict dogma nor did he like the people that did. He took a bit from everything and everyone and forged a religion of his own. He held the deepest respect for Deliar, Branderback and Xeen, but many others found a way into his heart if the situation required. Though if asked to worship only one god Kas would have probably chosen Deliar, looking at his life it is a very logical choice. As much as the father and son enjoyed each other's company in time they both came to the same conclusion, Kas should see the world and travel more, and in order to get the full experience he should leave the warm inn. Both of them were sad to leave each other, but they knew that it was for the better and that they would see each other again. And so the journey began!
