Inara Brokenbow

Background

Inara's Mother, a young Grey Elf by the name of Alendal Silvertree, was living in a hidden village in the Saddleback Mountains when a group of Giants attacked, killing her parents and most of her friends and neighbors. Alendal set out into the mountains to revenge herself on the giants. It was there in the mountains during an epic spell-slinging battle with some giants that a large avalanche was triggered by a stray fireball, burying Inara's mother under several feet of rock; the giants left her for dead. Inara's father, a wandering warrior by the name of Samuel Damien, witnessed the battle from a distance away and admired the skill of this young sorceress. Witnessing her defeat and believing her to still be alive, he toiled for days to remove the rocks burying Alendal. He finally discovered her body, broken and barely breathing, but still having the lifebreath inside of her. Samuel took up her body and rushed her to Harper's Crossing, the nearest village he knew of, to seek help for her. Captivated by her beauty, Samuel barely ever left her bedside for the several months of her slow recovery. Upon recovering and learning of her rescuers tale, Alendal decided that perhaps her people's disdain for Humans was misplaced. Both deeply in love, Samuel and Alendal wished to stay together, but Alendal decided it best to return to the gray elves. As Alendal left Point Dart for Sadina, she swore to return someday to find Samuel. Heartbroken and but ever faithful, Samuel told her he would wait for her return. Unbeknown to either of them, Alendal was carrying Samuel's child even as she boarded the ship. Upon her arrival in Sadina, Alendal's pregnancy had much progressed. The family she found in Sadina was at first overjoyed to discover that someone had survived the giant attack. Within a few days, however questions about the father of the child she bore began to arise. Then, Jenra 11, 1419, Inara was born, the half-elf child of Samuel and Alendal. The family was horrified. Upon discovering how serious Alendal's fraternization with lowly humans had become, she was exiled from the family; her enchanted bow, a family heirloom, was stripped from her and broken into pieces. This shattered weapon became her namesake after the name of Silvertree had been stripped from her. She and her newborn child were put on the first boat that could be found back to Dregar and she was forbidden from returning to Voltrex for the rest of her life. On the long voyage back to Point Dart, Alendal clung to the hope that Samuel would be waiting for her. Finally arriving at the same inn where she had left him earlier that year, she was dismayed to find no trace of Samuel. Asking around, she learned from the Innkeep that Samuel had some time ago run out of Truths to pay his bills and was forced to set out adventuring once again, saying only that he was going West. Alendal had no choice but to set out and begin searching, young child in tow. For many years Alendal wandered the continent of Dregar, listlessly seeking her love, never remaining in one place for very long. During these travels, young Inara began to grow into power of her own. She began to display a wild, untamed talent for magic. Having gone through much the same thing as a child, Alendal taught Inara how to train and focus her powers into something more useful and controlled. The life of a wanderer is rough and unpredictable, and Inara grew into a rugged, tough, itinerant individual with a powerful sense of good instilled in her by her mother. However, along with age and power Inara also grew a strong sense of independence. She began to question why they even needed to seek Samuel-after all, she herself had never even seen her father. Pressed on by her powerful sense of love, Alendal could only tell Inara that she would perhaps understand when she was older. This conflict began to drive Alendal and Inara farther and farther apart, until one night Inara decided that should could not stand the pointless quest any longer. Stealing a few basic weapons and some money from her mother in the dead of night, Inara struck out to get as far away from her mother as possible. She traveled south to Lor, took a boat to Katherian, and wandered Alindor for some years, honing her skills with weapons and magic. Her adventurers spirit pressed her onwards, and a powerful gut feeling pressed her to travel with a group of mariners setting out from Mariner's Hold for Port Hempstead...
