Poll: How did You attain your PrC?

This is a poll for all persons with prestige classes to find out

A) how many of you are out there

B) what method it took to get your PrC approved

C) if you gave up during the process, and why


Please detail your experiences with the process, how many entries you made to your CDT over how much time, the lenght of the CDQ, or why you gave up along the way. Feedback regarding the process would be much appreciated as well.


Note: I allowed for multiple responses to cover multiple character experiences.

Dalan Stoneaxe has the weapon masters class. I did it primarily through my written journal and by some rp with another wm which was also documented in my thread and his.

Rayenoir obtained her Shadowdancer PrC back in the days when a CDQ was required for such a thing without question. I had a CDT running at the time to merit the CDQ taking place.

Fenrir's Dwarven Defender status was approved upon creation and I do keep a journal, but I really regret not having a CDQ. It would've been so much more fun and possibly open some new directions in character development.

Alatriel's was by keeping a cdt, by rp, and then by cdq. Daniella is currently in process to attempt a prc, and has 3 cdt's and is in the middle of a multi-part cdq.

I was told I had to have it written up in a CDT which followed up with a CDQ which was great!

Kept G'orks CDT at first to be approved for WM, after that for Assassin, along with 3 CDQs to be approved for the class (Thanks Dezza).


All 3 quests were very interesting, the first one I had people along on, the other two I went at alone - dangerous but very fun.

I used CDT and CDQ, and the CDT was done during around two months, once every day or so...Sometimes every other day. CDQ was around 4-5 hours long, I believe. Never really kept track, to be completely honest :)


This was for Kinai, who PrC'd in shadowdancer levels.

I got my PrC (shadow dancer) from a CDT thread only. I knew from character submission that I would be going SD and so kept a detailed thread and RPed a lot ingame with other PCs. Once I got the PrC approved, I admit I did slack off on that aspect of both the CDT as well as the RP.


To be honest, I am intimidated by the thought of having to request a CDQ. I don't like the thought of having to perform up to others' expectations on my playing style or how I RP, etc. I'm certainly not saying that any GM would be critical or anything like that, it's just a personal RL character flaw of my own.


I also hesitate to be a bother to the GMs by requesting they take time out of their schedules to focus on me. I play during a very (very) low GM time period; any that are online during this time can do whatever they want to me without special invitation! ;-)


The few CDQs I have been on for others have all been superb fun with focused RP.

My answer was Through my CDT only, and references my now deceased character, Melanna Jin'Daern who earned the Weapon-Master PrC.


My other character, Lyle Underroot, who wishes to attain the Red Dragon Disciple PrC still hasn't attained it, though he's had one CDQ and plenty of CDT entries to help him toward that goal. He may never attain the PrC either, and if that's to be I'm fine with that for the most part. To meet the current goal set by the DM running Lyle's first CDQ it seems I'll have to have a CDQ or something to learn the Draconic language since it's impossible to learn it from NPC's and there don't seem to be any active PC's that can teach him the language. Beyond that, I'm positive there's even more difficult tasks for Lyle to accomplish before he'll be set to try for the RDD PrC, but he's only level 13, so he's got plenty of time.


The point is, some PrC's are easier to get than others because they're more mundane. But all PrC's require commitment for the long haul to achieve, and they should, or they'd lose the Prestige that comes with earning them.

I used a CDT thread, and as much RP with other WeaponMasters as I could to get Jal's Weaponmaster PrC. I also had it planned during character creation as well.


As for cdq's Yeah PnP, they are great fun. I had a blast on Shiff's cdq.

Thanks Hawk, I had fun on it too, but at the same time its not over =oP You get to have more fun!


I only have one PC thats really ben developed, Shiff. He's headed toward becoming a Weapon Master, and has been approved already after lessons from Pyyran, but hasn't take the levels yet due to thing relating to RP and his CDQ. Soon though...


And yes, some PrCs are Mundane like WM. All anyone needs to do for that one is more or less find someone to teach them how to fight in RP, or just talk about training oneself in their CDT. But RDD, geez... I'd rather just stay a straight Sorc...


SD, CoT/V, Bear Warrior... Those are some of the tasty ones that are chalk full of yummy CDT bits and Crunchy CDQ waffers...

Lets see...Ive had 2.


For grenna, it was mostly cdq and very little cdt. Her CDT was mostly just about her going more insane than normal and eventually channeling her rage..sortof. She still has issues with that. ;) The CDQ itself ejnded up beingbased off of a stand alone surprise quest and it worked out really well...with lots of mindless dwarfen violence! Dead darkies and pulpy trolls!


Abigails spellsword cdq was very involved. Kudos to all the gms who participated! I think it took about 2 months overall to get it done...alot of CDT entries, and alot of mini quests leading up to the actual CDQ. Even after she passed her CDQ, there was an ongoing spellsword tie in with another PC's quest to attain the PrC.


It was a really awesomely done CDQ. Alot of thinking, alot of work, and a really good payoff of adventure, excitement, fashion and fame! :D

I struggled to put Pyyran's development into a CDT, which, while played extensively by yours truly in-game, was hard for me to keep up with in text in a thread.


However, after an initial ridiculous submission made after far too little sleep, I managed to cobble together a submission for Duelist that made sense and worked.


Honestly, the only reason I was approved was because I've been pushing Pyyran for Duelist from level 3, over the course of a year and something, and I had played it in-game so extensively. My CDT is sparse... If full of meaning in its few posts.
