Messenger Birds

Once a player has registered their Public CD Key on LORE they may send messages to other characters via a messenger bird. Letters and messages sent this way will be delivered to the recipient in game. If the character is not in game at the time the message is sent, they will receive the message the next time they log in. A bird will appear near the recipient, drop a letter in to their inventory and then fly away. Birds will only deliver messages in outside areas.

There is no absolute process that using the bird messengers from LORE equates to in game. Druids or rangers may be able to personally communicate with a bird to help them send their message. Other players may like to roleplay it as going to the inn to use their messenger service. Others may play it as a local postman who gathers messages and then distributes them via birds. Others still have played it as though they have their own personal bird at their beckon all the time, though this last might be a little far-fetched for most characters.

The main point is to try to keep the LORE Bird Messengers in character of course. Ask yourself if sending the message from where your character is makes sense. Think about the time it would take to send the message based on the distance to the recipient. Please also be wary of your usage of communicating by bird during a GM quest. While mechanically your message may be received by the recipient in as little as 5 minutes provided he/she is out in open air, a GM will typically not accept that as reality.

1. Go to LORE and sign in.

2. Choose the character you wish to send the letter to, either by querying their player name and following the link or going directly to their LORE page.

3. Choose the "Send Letter" option near the top of the screen.

4. Select the character who is sending the letter from the list of available characters. You may only send letters from your own characters. If you wish to have the letter appear to be from another character, you may send it anonymously and sign their name in the body of the message, but it will still be sent from your account.

5. Type in a subject heading and the message. Please note that the LORE markup does not work in these messages and that what you type will appear in-game, as-is.

6. Choose whether you wish to send the letter anonymously or whether you wish to sign it. Signed letters cost 50 gp to send, while anonymous ones cost 150 gp. The character sending the letter must have adequate funds available in their bank account to send the letter.

7. Wait for the recipient to receive their letter! Please note, there is sometimes a short delay between sending the letter and the delivery in game, so allow for this when planning your correspondences.

(Please be aware that all messages sent to any character are stored permanently in the database. This is for administrative purposes only.)
