His heart raced so quickly he could feel its violent pounding beneath his ribcage, his lungs burning and feet worn red raw right to the bone.  Countless bite marks speckled his skin as he fell to the forest floor by the temple Kitharian, the priests kneeling before him frantically as he gasped near to death.  They called upon their god to beseech his healing powers and very nearly lost him to fatigue when they looked up in horror at the swarm that advanced upon him.  Like a black cloud the many legged swarm swept through the plains, engulfing all they crawled upon.  The runner scrambled to his feet and kept travelling.  It was too late for his brethren, he had to warn others...
