Born the third son of a profoundly magical family, Rurien Beaumont had great expectations fom birth regarding his magical aptitude and prowess. His older brothers, Alero and Kalwind, had become adept conjurers by their tenth birthdays, and powerful wizards by their twentieth years. Despite his spectacular heritage, Rurien found no interest in books or study, lending all of his time instead to archery, poetry, song, and later, women. High level wizards and sorcerers were brought in one after another to try and awaken the abilities they felt lay dormant in him, but the tutelage of a bard named Corven, an old juggler and performer, was his greatest influence as a child and young man. Baffled at their failure, the wizards declared on Rurien's fifteenth birthday that the boy had only the barest magical ability, and he was sent home from the Academy in shame. His parents refused to talk to him about anything magical, and his brothers looked down on him as an inferior. On his eighteenth birthday, Rurien packed up his meager belongings and, taking what little bardic magic he had learned, said goodbye to his family and the few friends he had managed to make and set out into the world, dropping his surname to distance himself from his family and make a name for himself. Rurien moves where the wind blows, following a whim and a dream with a song in his heart, but under it all is a young man with a belief in love, truth, justice, and freedom for all people of the world.
