Writer's Wednesday XXXII
Greetings Readers!
Today is a special episode for those who fear (or
love) that which is
(generally considered) creepy and crawly! From the small
to the tall
they range the islands, some harmless but most not! For your
twitching delight we offer a sample of insect specimens today.
Wood
Spider - Silken webs that fill the treetops are home to this
creature. It
tends to feed on the small birds and furry creatures that
poke its webs but
larger ones can be man eaters.
Sand Scorpion - The venom of this scorpion
can kill a camel in less than
ten minutes. It is the size of a common cat
and just as fast.
Hairy Coffin Spider - The Hairy Coffin spider is a
fuzzy, reddish spider
found most often near fresh dead...or unliving. Its
bite, rather than
poisoning, causes debilitating disease.
Enraged
Wasp - The sheer size of this insect is impressive. Given the
aggression
level of its smaller cousins one would be worried.
Huge Woodland Beetle -
Large, stealthy and solitary, the dull forest
green woodland beetle is not a
scavenger but an avid hunter of fresh,
bloody kills. The beetles grow
quickly to the size of a mature sheep;
the primary indicator of a woodland
beetles age is the speed of their
attack and the strength of the poison
coating their otherwise small
mandibles. This beetle is larger than
most.
Remember dear readers, do not forget to look up as well as around
for
you do not know from what direction these agile creatures will arrive on the
hunt.
